Evaluations
Last updated on October 26, 2026
Evaluations score a colony's state and behavior on predefined criteria (gentleness, frame behavior, swarming...), to track its quality over time and compare it to the other hives in the operation.
Principle
Each evaluation criterion is scored on its own scale (for example 1 to 4 for gentleness, 0 to 100 for a VP/100 test): the list of criteria and their scoring bounds are predefined by ApiTracer, unlike operation or honey types, which are customizable from Management.
Evaluating a colony
On the website
- Open the hive information sheet for the hive in
question (
/statistics-hive/<code>). - In the Evaluations section, click Add.
- Enter the score for each relevant criterion.
- Confirm.
On the mobile app
- In the Enter tab, select Evaluations.
- Scan the QR code of the hive in question (or select it from the list).
- Enter the score for each criterion.
- Confirm.
Using evaluations
Evaluation data feeds the Statistics and lets you compare performance by stock, by apiary, or by season — a valuable reference for deciding which colonies to breed from or renew.
Why evaluate colonies regularly?
Regularly scoring a colony's behavior (gentleness, frame behavior, tendency to swarm...) makes it possible to objectify an assessment that would otherwise stay purely subjective and dependent on the beekeeper's memory — a useful reference both for deciding which queens to renew and for spotting a gradual decline before it becomes visible to the naked eye.
Since these criteria are predefined and scored on the same scale for every colony, ApiTracer lets you directly compare hives or stocks against each other, or the same hive from one season to the next — see the corresponding question in the FAQ.
